Abuse (Narrative)

Acknowledgements: This post, or rather this essay is as inspired by Mr Zhiliang. 'I nice hor, do essay with you.' (:

I curled up in a ball, scrunched up in my favourite little corner trying to fall asleep in such a hot and humid weather. A familiar clacking of the heels rang in a distance and my ears perked up to clarify the sound. Mrs Lee! I arched my back, shaking off all fatigue from me and I stood up to greet her.

"Hello little one! Here's your favourite can of tuna!" Mrs Lee crooned at me.

I gave her an innocent smile and purred in delight as she laid the can on the concrete floor of the void deck in front of me. I lapped up the tuna and within a few minutes, the tuna was gone. I lied back onto the floor, glad of a full stomach. Mrs Lee patted my round stomach and cleared away the can. I then went to my favourite corner to continue my sleep.

A familiar whistle pulled me away from my dreams and the familiar dragging of boots sent shivers down my spine. Loong! At that thought, I sprinted to the carpark, and hid beneath a black van, praying that Loong would not be able to find me.Unfortunately, he did.

"Hey kitty kitty, I saw you already so you better come out now!" the cracked voice of Loong boomed as I saw the dirty pair of boots coming in a distance. Every sound the boots made seemed to resonate in my ear drums and I cowered in fright.

The pair of boots stopped right in front of me and I grimaced in horror. I prayed hard that he would not discover me under the van but to no avail. The grotesque-looking face of Loong appeared in front of me suddenly and I yelped. Loong laughed menacingly. Then with one swift action, Loong had pulled me from under the van with the callous hands of his and carried me right in front of his face.

"Aren't you a coward?" he scorned at me.

Mustering up my courage, I spat into his face like a rebellious child being caught for something he did not do. Loong was infuriated and began his torturous routine.

He tied my rear legs together to prevent me from escaping. I screamed in pain when he tightened the wires around my legs. He laughed at me with no sense of sympathy and continued. Then he secured a can to my tail with another wire, I yelped in agony. I could feel the blood oozing from my legs and tail and it was a pain hard to bear.

"Gee up! Move it!" Loong demanded.

I was forced to move around the void deck with the heavy burden on my tail by dragging my legs along. The pain was overwhelming and at that moment, Death seemed to be better off.

I was geting weak by the second and I finally collapsed. Loong was not letting me off yet. To make me go on more, he lighted my tail with his disgusting lighter, cackling at the same time. I groaned in pure agony and I fainted.

A sudden icy cold feeling woke me up from my trance and I realised that Loong had just poured a pail of iced water on me to wake me up. He chuckled at my sudden reaction and picked me up. He sat on the stairs putting me on his lap and he smoked his cigarette. I coughed at the smoke he blew on my face. That was a wrong move. I should have resisted from coughing. However, he smoke was enveloping me and it was intolerable.I coughed and wheezed. Everytime i cough, he would poke me with that cigarette, burning me. I yelped but hardly any sound came out. I was too weak.

"Hey! What are you doing?" a baritone voice shouted.

Loong looked at the origin of the voice and became terrified. I turned my head to looked but i could see nothing but silhouttes. Loong dropped me on the floor and ran. One silhoutte went in chase of Loong. That was when i realised there was two of those silhouttes. The other silhoutte pickd me up and I saw Loong being caught.

I smiled to myself, and fainted to the colour of navy blue, the clothes my hero was wearing.

The Chicken or the Egg?

Acknowledgements: Today's post is as inspired by Pei Shan, my ever close friend in class. Oh ya, and if you are curious of how she looks like you can simply look me up on friendster. (:

The chicken or the egg? A paradoxical matter that has intoxicated many naive minds in the continent, in the world. Of course, I'm one of those naive people who is also thinking about this issue all day. Didn't this issue ever bothered you at all?

In my own perspective, I can see this 'question' in two different ways. Religiously, as well as scientifically.

Religiously

God first created the Chicken, or rather the hen to be more precise, to lay the egg. Then, the egg hatched into a chicken and thus, creating more chickens and hens. Of course, with the assumption that the egg was already fertilised in the hen. This does sound a bit wrong, eh?
Hence, the chicken comes first!

Scientifically

Many bits of micro-organisms, bacteria are combined together, forming the round object, known as the egg!
Thus, the egg comes first!

Anyways, this is such a controversial topic that just the mere thoughts of it makes me kind of dizzy and nauseatic.

But whichever comes first..

I am just happy that we have fowls to add to the poultry and I can eat chicken anytime.
Chicken or Egg?
I guess it is out of my league.
All Hail the Chickens!
Allowing me to enjoy KFC which apparently has UNLIMITED supply of chickens to cook ANYTIME!

The English Language

The English Language. It is through this medium that everyone in Singapore, this cosmopolitan island, that everyone understands each other almost perfectly. You might suddenly wonder, "almost"?

It is true that most Singaporeans speak the English Language, but being totally in control, being fluent in the language itself, is a different story altogether. I daresay that most Singaporeans are in command of the language but being very fluent, I admit and would beg to differ.

The English Language is a globally known language and that I do believe that other than Mathematics and Science, English is also one of the factors that make the world go round. Without English, every homosapien would be speaking in their own individual native languages, creating a huge gap between every race, every religion. Perhaps that way, Singapore would be a state that I do not wish would happen. English is like the key to every door, irregardless of race, religion or other kinds of things that we humans follow. English is the medium we use to get to know one another.

Currently, in Singapore, we have our own unique language, or rather, a dialect of English I call it, more commonly known here, as "Singlish". Is it not unique? "Singapore English" the way the word actually goes by. It is when every sentence ends with a 'lah', 'leh', 'lor' and many more that I cannot really remember. Then, now you are thinking, "It's Singlish, you, a Singaporean do not speak that?". Not really, i do admit. Maybe when I'm speaking Mandarin, but not when I'm speaking English. I am not very sure why, but I guess i 'quitted' using Singlish long ago. Well, sort of, but really 'Singlish' is a rare kind of dialect i use nowadays. Ever since I was fifteen, i changed over to English instead.

I am not sure about this but, I do sometimes think that if I were to use 'Singlish' in say, the States or rather in the UK, is it not going to be kind of weird? I guess those English and British people would be laughing deep down inside, or rather cursing and swearing, for me insulting the beautiful English Language. I do not wish of that to happen but what do you know, I sincerely believe that having the ability to speak the English Language well and fluent is so 'cool'. Really! I adore those who speak the English Language with such vibrancy and eloquence, not forgetting the rombust and vigour. I really give kudos to these people for having such fluency that even I, the small fry, would want such ability.

Though I do admit that my dream, is to learn as many languages as possible but so far, I have not even learnt the other two national languages of Singapore and that, not yet mastered all of the foundation of the English Language as well as my mother tongue, Chinese. So, the Spanish Language, the French Language and the German Language just have to wait..

The World of Engineering

Engineering in the world of Science, revolves around the orbits of Physics. It is the key of successes and also the mother of all technologies. Engineering is the base to everything and for all inventions since they all require the rules of engineering. Engineering, known to all, is the root of all the successful inventions that are currently being used worldwide today.

Though there are many different kinds of engineering in the world, the variety of engineering still leads to only one thing- benefiting the people living in this world, making this world a fuss-free and easier place to live in. Indeed, without engineering, would we humans be able to live on?

It seems like some kind of joke to claim that we cannot live without the principles of engineering but would it not be true that for now we cannot live without lighting? In Singapore, it is even almost impossible to live without air-conditioning and for the current world full of businesses and other expatriates, is it possible to live without the modern technology of cell phones? I believe that teenagers in Singapore can no longer live without the existence of cell phones, and with that I do believe that this scenario is no longer restricted to Singapore only, but also extended to other countries, Asia and beyond. Technology is already embedded into us and is already part of our lives that it would definitely be impossible to ignore it. Yes, changes in technology is a continual occurrence and there is nothing to stop it. We, homosapiens, have evolved ever since those cavemen era and definitely we are not going back there again.

With engineering, miracles are being created daily, or even perhaps every minute in science laboratories all around the globe. Perhaps you would be thinking that ‘miracles’ is seemingly a religious word to use but to think of it, there are people who ‘worship’ Physics as a religion and thus, various ‘miracles’ are often created.

Why ‘miracles’ you might be thinking. Well, do you not think that the invention of the light bulb by Thomas Edison was a miracle? Or lest, we will be writing in the dark at night, with a severe case of myopia! To add on that, is it not a miracle for the discovery of the refraction of glass and to make different refractive indexes for them for the creation of lens for our spectacles to better correct our cases of myopia around the globe that seems to be increasing by the hour! Or rather, is it not a miracle to have the telephone invented by Alexander Fleming? Did the telephone improve our ways of communication? Yes! What about the computer? The cell phone? The Internet? Are these not miracles of the human race? The list could go on and on!

Perhaps many would say that, ‘hey, Engineering is not the thing the world is orbiting on! We rely on the medical sciences!’ Perhaps, but is it not true that even the biomedical sciences are relying on the world of Engineering to move on? Engineering is the seed to all of the medical sciences as well, though Engineering is revolving mainly on Physics but then again without Engineering, is it even possible for those medical sciences to go on? Say that one day, all the Engineering work are being eliminated, will there be any one dealing with the machines for those medicinal productions? No! Will there be anyone doing large productions of medicine? No! What about technical stuff and problems faced in those biomedical laboratories? No! So is Engineering important to you? Playing a big part in everything?

Of course, there are times where Engineering seems to be having a bit of mistakes, that is, wrongdoings, inventing the wrong things. Take for instance, nuclear engineering. Hazardous? Yes! Harmful? Yes!

Nuclear engineering is one field of engineering that seems to be doing harm to the human race and to Gaia itself. Nuclear Engineering seems all so wrong! Just to recall from all our history books when nuclear bombs were felled on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It was a total catastrophe, I do admit. Dire consequences came after that. The aftermath of the entire bombing was horrendous and with that, many would think, why create the nuclear bomb and harm the people? Why not picture all the aftermath and results after the bombing? Radiation, mutation, is that what we want of the future generations? Settling of a problem is not easy, yes, but just to get a upper hand, and we do not think of what would happen after that? This lesson actually taught us, the future generation, that with everything, picture the end as well. When there is only one problem, there are many solutions to it.

But then again, with only one as the black sheep, what is there not to agree that the rest of the fields of Engineering are white and pure? Is it not true that with electronical engineering, we could get most of our technologies working? Is it not true that with aerospace engineering, we could get most of our planes and technical things on them working well? Is it not true that with Chemical Engineering, we could get our petroleum chemicals and large production of pharmaceutical materials done right? Then is it not true that Engineering has done a lot of good and is playing a huge part in our lives and thus, we could not live without it!

Engineering is one aspect of life that no one can deny its existence and contributions to the current advanced technologies. Since Engineering is the key of successes and also the mother of all technologies, Engineering is indisposable, bounderless and can go on forever! Engineering is the steps of every man’s success and to bring the human race and technologies as well as the human intelligence one level up and beyond.

Cheers and kudos to Engineering! With engineering, our world can be fuss-free, easier to handle and also give us loads of excitement and various inventions that we can look forward to every single day.

With engineering, everything is possible.
